VMware ESXi 6.0 Install (Interactive)

Prerequisites

  • ESXi installer ISO must be in one of the following locations:
         On CD or DVD
         On a USB flash drive.
You can also PXE boot the ESXi installer to launch an interactive installation or a scripted one.

  • Verify that the server hardware clock is set to UTC. This setting is in the system BIOS.
  • Verify that a keyboard and monitor are attached to the machine on which the ESXi software will be installed. Alternatively, use a remote management application.
  • Consider disconnecting your network storage. This action decreases the time it takes the installer to search for available disk drives.
Note that when you disconnect network storage, any files on the disconnected disks are unavailable at installation.
  • Do not disconnect a LUN that contains an existing ESX or ESXi installation.
  • Gather the information required by the ESXi installation wizard
  • Verify that ESXi Embedded is not present on the host machine. ESXi Installable and ESXi Embedded cannot exist on the same host.
Installation

1. Attach the ISO or CD/DVD to the machine where the ESXi to be installed. And Power On the machine.

2. Once you Power On the machine you will see the installation is loading

3. Once loaded you should now see Welcome screen.

4. Accept the EULA

5. Select the disk where you want to install the ESXi,

6. Select the Keyboard Layout as per your geography.

7. Enter the 'root' password as per your choice.

8. Okay, so I did not set the CPU cores to 2 so it gave this error. Make sure the VT is enabled in the BIOS and CPU is atleast 2.

9. Once that was taken care I was able to move forward to Confirm and start the installation.

10. It just takes couple of minutes to install the ESXi. Once done press Enter to reboot.

11. After the reboot you should see the screen like below. And your ESXi should be ready for further configuration like setting up Network, Hostname etc..
