Network Profile

Network profiles are created to specify network settings in reservations. You can also specify a network profile in the  blueprints. An external network profile is created for the reservations and blueprints. When the VM is destroyed the IP is released back to the pool.

Note: If a network profile is specified in the blueprint by using the "VirtualMAchine.NetworkN.ProfileName" custom property and by a reservation that is used by the blueprint, the network profile specified in the blueprint takes precedence.


Log in to the vRealize Automation console as a fabric administrator. Select Infrastructure > Reservations > Network Profiles.

1. Select New Network Profile > External.

2. Enter a Name and a Description.

3. Enter an IP subnet mask address.
4. Enter the default IP gateway address.
5. In the DNS/WINS group, enter values as needed, this is optional though.

6. Click on IP Range. And enter the IP range and details as shown below. Click OK.

7. Once complete you should see the network profile as below with the IP ranges. Finally click Submit.

Create Reservations

Reservation can define policies, priorities, and quotas that determine machine placement for provisioning requests.
Reservation policies restrict machine provisioning to a subset of available reservations. Storage reservation policies allow blueprint architects to assign machine volumes to different datastores.

Reservations can be used to allocate resources to business groups. Each business group must have at least one reservation for its members to provision machines. For example, a business group having HR department reservation but not IT department reservation, cannot request a machine from IT department.

Prerequisites

One business group must exist.
Compute resource exists.

1. Log in to the vRealize Automation console as a fabric administrator. Select Infrastructure > Reservations > Reservations.

2. Click the New icon (+) and select the vSphere type.

3. On the General tab, If applicable, select an existing reservation from the Copy from existing reservation drop-down menu.

     a. Enter a Name in the Name text box.
     b. Select the Tenant from the drop-down menu.
     c. Select a Business group from the drop-down menu.
     d. Select a Reservation policy from the drop-down (Optional)
     e. Enter Priority.
     f. Click on 'Enable this reservation'

4. Only users in this business group can provision machines by using this reservation.




5. Click Next or Resource tab.

6. Select a compute fabric on which to provision machines.

Note: Only templates located on the cluster you select are available for cloning with this reservation.

7. (Optional) Enter a number in the Machine quota to set the maximum number of machines that can be provisioned on this reservation. Only machines that are powered on are counted towards the quota.

8. Allocate the amount of memory, in GB.

9. Select the datastores and allocate the reservation in GB that will take part in machine provisioning. These datastores are coming from the fabric cluster defined above.

10. Select a resource pool if you have resource pools in your cluster.

11. Click Next or Network tab.

12. Select the appropriate Network path (Port Group) name from the list and assign a network profile to it. Network profile can be left blank if you are planning to use third party tools as IPAM.

13. Select the Properties Tab and define the custom properties there.

14. Optionally you can set the Alerts as well in the Alerts tab.
