Prepare Host for VXLAN

The VXLAN network gets created automatically when you create the first PvDC. But if you are facing issues setting up VXLAN network in the PvDC then probably you  may have missed the below,

1. Login to the vCNS.


2. Select the Datacenter in your vCenter as highlighted below.

3. Click on 'Network Virtualization' on the right hand side.


4. Click 'Preparation'.


5. Make sure your Cluster is listed in the list below.


6. If not then click 'Edit' and add the cluster against the appropriate vDS.


7. Select the correct teaming policy, the default one "Static EtherChannel'.


8. Click Finish. Once completed the cluster will show up in the list as shown in the screenshot.


Segment ID

  1. Click 'Segment ID'
  2. Enter a pool of Segment IDs, starting from range 5000. 
  3. Fill the 'Multicast address range', I used 225.2.1.1-225.2.4.100

Network Scope

  1. Click 'Network Scopes'
  2. Click on the Green + button to add the network scope.
  3. Give a suitable name and select the cluster where you want to add to this network scope.
  4. Click 'OK'
Virtual Wire

Once above is complete we can go ahead and create a virtual wire, 
  1. Click 'Networks'
  2. Click the Green + button to create a VXLAN network.
  3. Enter a name.
  4. Select the appropriate 'Network scope' from the previous topic.
  5. Click OK.
